Hooked on Phonics®
Hooked on Phonics® reading programs are based on authoritative research in the field, providing a balance of systematic phonics instruction and reading books. We crafted the scope and sequence of our programs with the guidance of reading specialists and teachers. The stories that accompany the lessons were written not only to reflect newly learned words, but also to engage and motivate students and get them excited about reading. And teachers across the country agree—the formula works!

Our mission in designing curriculum is for every student to achieve measurable progress during each lesson, and to make it easy for you to achieve that goal. These important hints can help ensure success with the program:

Individual Pacing
Part of what makes Hooked on Phonics programs so successful is our commitment to meeting students' individual needs. This curriculum is adaptable to accommodate students learning at different speeds. Feel free to tailor it to fit the needs and pacing of your students.

Reading Aloud
We recommend that students using the programs say each word out loud and practice oral reading when reading the stories and books. This not only reinforces their learning but also helps you assess mastery of the skills in the lessons.

Mastery
It's very important that students master each lesson before moving on. Each new lesson builds on the skills learned in the previous ones. Giving students the time and tools needed to master each lesson is key to achieving the greatest benefit from the program.

Remember these simple guidelines as you teach the Hooked on Phonics reading programs, and you and your students will enjoy measurable success each step of the way!

Broadcast Rights & Distance Education
GPN is pleased to make several series from the Educational Program Service (EPS) available to you - in whole or in part - for use in your classroom, broadcast or cablecast. These series are annotated on the description pages. The license of these rights grants unlimited use of the program during a specified period of time.

America’s Special Days
This popular series utilizes an interdisciplinary approach that combines language arts, science, math, and fine art topics into a social studies framework. Vivid, exciting locations and warm scenes of family celebrations illustrate the colorful narrative. Each program features one holiday, its history, its meaning, and how Americans celebrate it.

Backyard Safari
Backyard Safari is an engaging series of programs that introduce topics in science and natural history. The primary goal of the series is to excite children to investigate the natural world and develop positive connections with scientific practice. A complementary goal is to help empower all children to see themselves as “scientists” who can turn off the television, step outside, and learn directly from the world around them.

Dragonfly TV
DragonflyTV is devoted entirely to science for kids. But it's not like any science show you've ever seen - because it's real kids doing real science! In every episode, real kids tell about their own investigations - how they explore the science in the things they love to do.

On the DragonflyTV website your students can, take part in nationwide science experiments, download a copy of the “DragonflyTV Science Journal,” and -- best of all -- tell DragonflyTV what they are investigating. For teachers, parents and community workshop leaders, there are Teacher's Guides, with lots of ideas for investigations.

Browse our website and discover over 40 more series of educational media to enhance your student’s learning experience. Please sign up (link to Newsletter capture form) to receive our newsletters to learn about new series as they’re added to our library, as well as receive special offers for future order.
